Good tidings. Another edition of our letter, coming in time to kick off your weekend.

Eternal Atake 2: Lil Uzi is a Bug Alien

A review of Lil Uzi Vert’s latest project, written by Firebird.

“EA2” is the long awaited sequel to 2020’s cult classic “Eternal Atake” by Philadelphia Native Lil Uzi Vert. Uzi creates a soundscape that merges Philly’s Lincoln Field with a 2007 Altima driven by a teen high off Galaxy Gas. We get stadium anthems that bang heads in goth nightclubs. The drugfluence exists - I’m 7 weeks sober and this record has me reaching for Wock and Kush.

“We Good” & “Lightyear (Practice)” starts us off in a space stadium with big 808’s, laser beam synths, and the EA sports “it’s in the game” guy introducing the album. The first half we mostly get “experimental Uzi” which fans should be used to by now - enchanting bars over bassy dripped out instrumentals.

The last 5 presents the strongest stretch of songs by far - Sad Uzi makes me want to hug him on my tippy toes. “Chill Bae” brings us heartbreak in the form of drizzy-esque flows with a hit-worthy hook. “PerkySex” sounds like an 80’s love ballad to Percocet Addiction. The album wraps up with “Super High” where we get “Alien Bug Uzi” - I love when he says stuff in a funny voice.

All in all I give it a 6/10. First 2/3rds feels average at best, however the final third does the trick for me. Always nice to hear Mr. Vert back on his space shit.
